Surrey Pottery Making Classes

Based in Witley in Surrey, Wildcroft Pottery provides hand-building pottery classes to beginners or those with limited experience. however, you are more than welcome to sign up for classes if you have more experience and want to refresh your skills or work at your own pace. 

Taster Classes are offered to adults (17+) who want to give ceramics a go for 2.5  hours before signing up to a series of weekly classes. 

Weekly Courses are classes at a set time each week for 2.5 hours for 5 or 10 weeks during term time

One to One (Two) Classes are for individuals or two friends or family members who want dedicated teaching time from Lucy to be taught at a pace that suits them making items of their choice. Bookings are made by contacting Lucy directly using the Contact Page.

Techniques, Clay & Decorative Methods Taught

Whether or not you’ve tried pottery before all classes will include one or more of the three basic hand-building ceramic techniques; pinching, coiling and slab making.

Stoneware clay is used in all lessons.

Various decorative techniques using slips, underglazes, tools, engraving, overlaying tape/leaves/paper/string, glass, and glazes will be incorporated into the items made.

Classes

  Taster Classes

  • One 2.5 hour class for beginners (adults & children aged 17+)

  • £48 per individual

  • Understand how clay can be shaped to form functional or decorative pieces using the ‘pinching’ technique

  • Make up to three small pottery pieces

  • Add texture and decoration 

  • Glaze of your choice will be added by Lucy after the first firing

  • Collection of pieces after the second firing

  • Max of 6 people per class

  • Clay, all materials, tools, aprons and refreshments included

 5 Week Course

  • 5 x  2.5 hour classes at a set time each week for adults aged 17+

  • For beginners or those with limited experience

  • £232 per individual for adults classes

  • Pinching, coiling & slab building will be taught during the course

  • Each class will be structured to build on your skills, knowledge and use of different decorating techniques including slip, underglazes & textured items

  • Understand how clay can be shaped to form all kinds of functional or decorative pieces

  • Collection of pieces after the second firing

  • Max of 6 people per course

  • Clay, all materials, tools, aprons and refreshments included

10 Week Course

  • 10 x  2.5 hour classes at a set time each week (adults & children aged 17+)

  • For beginners or those with limited experience

  • £420 per individual

  • Pinching, coiling, slab building plus addition of sculptured elements will be taught during the course

  • Each class will be structured to build on your skills, knowledge and use of different decorating techniques including slip, underglazes, textured items, adding glass & using moulds

  • Understand how clay can be shaped to form all kinds of functional or decorative pieces

  • Collection of pieces after the second firing

  • Max of 6 people per course

  • Clay, all materials, tools, aprons and refreshments included

1:1 or 1:2 Class

  • Book one or more 2.5 hour hand building classes (adults & children aged 7+)

  • A single 1:1 hand-building pottery lesson is £82 or £138 for a 1:2 lesson

  • Discuss with Lucy prior to your lesson what pieces you want to make using pinching, coiling, slab building or sculptured elements

  • Add texture and decoration 

  • Glaze of your choice can either be added by Lucy after the first firing if booking a single class or in future sessions where more than one class is booked

  • Collection of pieces after the second firing

  • Clay, all materials, tools, aprons and refreshments included
